So, I just returned from an amazing week in New Orleans with my kids. We had a great time and it was well needed for all of us. We explored the city and ate some amazing food at world famous restaurants. We saw history, art and toured museums and the St. Louis Cathedral. We enjoyed a day at the Audubon Zoo and explored the Aquarium. We shopped and gathered some great souvenirs to bring back to friends and family. Most importantly, we made some memories with each other and worked toward healing from everything from the past several months. We didn’t put any limits on what we ate and just enjoyed the week. However, unfortunately we don’t feel so great and now it’s time to detox and start eating healthy again.
One thing that I have learned is that the best way to detox is to start with your colon. No, that’s not very lovely to think about, but the fact is, that’s the best way to detoxing your digestive system. My favorite juice to start this is my Green Juice. The recipe is simple and trust me, you will like it, if you are really needing to detoxify your system. Your body knows you need it and this juice will help you feel much better.
You can feel free to adjust the ingredients to your liking.
GREEN JUICE RECIPE
5 Cups Fresh Spinach
4 Cups Fresh Kale
4 Granny Smith Apples
4 Honey Crisp or Fuji Apples (adds a sweetness to the juice)
1 Large Cucumber
1 Bunch Fresh Parsley
1 Inch Piece of Fresh Ginger
Wash all vegetables and fruits thoroughly. I like to use Thieves Veggie Wash from Young Living (https://www.myyl.com/hmorrow777). Juice all fruits and vegetables in juicer and serve over ice. This recipe makes enough for several glasses of juice. You want to drink it within 24 hours as it begins to lose its nutritional value and flavor. The fresher the juice, the better.
When I detox with the green juice, I will usually have one meal during the day, if I’m still hungry. This meal consists only of vegetables. You don’t want to have meat or dairy. It’s best to stay away from grains during the first week, as well. Feel free to season your vegetables with herbs and a little sea salt. I will be adding some recipes for great detox meals that your entire family will like. My teenagers aren’t really fans of the juice but will eat salads and other vegan meals. It’s also hard to detox from sugar when you have been eating so many great desserts. It’s good to have lots of fruit available to curb that sweet tooth. Be watching for my banana ice cream recipe (coming soon). Quantities don’t matter so don’t limit yourself.
So, we are all on the track back to healthy eating. The first two weeks of detoxing are a bit rough, so hang in there. You will be glad you did.
